Packing Tips
Never underestimate how long it will take to pack. As soon as you know that you will be moving, start packing items that you are not likely to need straight away such as items in the attic, basement or garage.
- Boxes from grocery shops may not be strong enough to withstand the weight of your belongings. Always remember to tape to the bottom and the top of the boxes for extra security.
- Place knives and other sharp objects in a container, such as an old biscuit tin.
- Don’t mix items from different rooms in the same box. Label your boxes carefully by clearly marking which room they should be moved to. Listing the contents in the box will enable you to find specific items easier.
- Oils & liquids need to be transported in sealed containers. However removal companies cannot transport flammable liquids, therefore all petrol mowers, paraffin heaters etc, must be drained before they can be moved.
- Valuables such as jewellery, money, trinkets etc are not covered by removers insurance. It is imperative that these items are packed separately and taken with you.
- Pack a bag of essentials to be carried with you during your move. These should include: toiletries, medicines, address/phone book, activities for the children and for overseas relocatees, maybe you’ll need your phrase book!
- It is advisable to pack a basic tool kit including a hammer, multi-bit screwdriver, knife, tape etc. and clearly mark this for easy retrieval when you arrive.
